It was a very challenging site to get all the functions in, but we were really successful in creating a dynamic retail-and-service building, specifically leasing second-floor retail space.
Second-floor retail space is usually a ‘no-no,’ but it worked because of the visibility of the project and the convenience of the parking deck.

The Shops at Merchants Walk
This two-story mixed-use development features North Alabama’s first Whole Foods alongside shopping and dining tenants. Office and service tenants occupy the second level. The project also features an elevated 250-car parking deck. CMH maximized the use of limited space in this design to accommodate all tenants, while also meeting Whole Foods requirements.
