The whole site layout presented challenges — a new roadway system, reconfigured intersection, and site drainage.
The key to this project was solving those issues, including the community’s significant concerns. We worked with city officials, planning and zoning boards, design review board, fire department, and neighborhood groups to address each issue to create a development that was successful. The retail and residential spaces were leased and sold very quickly. It worked so well that we had to go back and expand the parking lots for both Whole Foods and the Cahaba Village center.

Cahaba Village
This popular mixed-use development was built on a high-profile site that required complex rezoning. CMH was among the leaders in meetings with the adjacent neighborhoods as well as the city to reach a consensus on design and construction. The center mixes first-floor retail and restaurants with two-story residential units above, as well as a freestanding bank and a Whole Foods Market.

Yet another example of our strong business partnership with CMH is the development of Cahaba Village, the once-infamous ’dirt pile on Highway 280.
CMH led the design of the newest Mountain Brook Village, including Birmingham’s first Whole Foods Market, specialty retail, and first-class condominiums. The project was voted Birmingham Business Journal’s ’Best Mixed-Use Project’ for 2006 and continues to serve the needs of a robust market.
