Lakeside Dining Hall at The University of Alabama

From project initiation to completion, this project took 10 months. Because of the operational importance of the building, CMH was asked to complete design in three months and administer a six-month construction schedule for this 915-seat dining hall renovation, a process that included gutting and reconstructing all public spaces in the building.

Lakeside Dining serves as the primary residential dining facility for over 5,000 students living in north campus.

As such, the university could not afford for it to be taken off-line for a year to accommodate a typical construction schedule. Working with the university and design team, CMH planned and directed an accelerated construction schedule that featured pre-purchase of all food-service equipment, accelerated submittal review, and pre-engineering of all steel shop drawings. Combined, these efforts cut three months out of the construction schedule and ensured delivery before the start of the fall semester.
